Dear backers,

We did this together so thanks AND congrats — In the Soup is on the way to being preserved for future generations, and a lot of great rewards are coming your way.

.
"Let's get some champagne and go home!"

At Factory 25 HQ, we might go home for the holiday weekend (it's been a big month!), but then we have some serious work to do to wrap up the campaign, to finalize the official plan for fulfilling rewards, and to have some big conversations with all the restoration and preservation labs and entities we're working with to get started on next steps.

Over the next few months, we'll be be repairing the print, scanning it, doing color correction, converting it to new formats, and arranging those theatrical screenings we've been talking about.

Plus, we'll be sending out surveys to get your addresses, t-shirt sizes, and other info. I'll keep you posted on when to look out for those.

There's a lot ahead of us, so thanks for your support, your ongoing ideas and suggestions, and for your patience! I'll send all a more detailed update soon with a sense of our timeline — stay tuned.

Excited to get to work!

SIX HOURS to go!
over 8 years ago – Wed, Sep 06, 2017 at 03:48:30 PM

Hey everyone,

What an incredible August of being totally immersed in the world of Rockwell, Buscemi, Beals, Cassel, and more, with all these surprises (from Michael Imperioli to Peter Dinklage) along the way.

Thank you so much for being part of this effort!

It could never happen without you. Can't wait to celebrate with this community around our re-release of one of my favorite indie movies.

As crazy as it is, this is the LAST DAY of the campaign.

This Kickstarter ends TODAY at 5:00PM PST!

So far, because of your involvement, we are able to:

  • Restore and preserve In the Soup for future generations!
  • Re-release In the Soup for its 25th Anniversary, digitally, on Blu-ray, and in some theaters!
  • Have amazing premiere screenings of the restoration with some of the cast in tow, in New York and LA — excited to meet some of you there!
  • Make the soundtrack available for the first time ever, digitally and in a special limited edition vinyl release
  • Restore Alex Rockwell's debut feature Lenz, and digitize his 1983 feature Hero
  • Create some extremely cool rewards for you guys, from the In the Soup t-shirt to the ability to put some of your names in the credits!
We are hopeful that we can still finish strong enough to create a short documentary film to be distributed along with the new release of In the Soup to recognize, honor, and share the story of the incredible actor and In the Soup star Seymour Cassel!

Please help spread the word that today is the last chance to be part of saving In the Soup and sharing the film, the music, and the stories of its incredible cast with fans old and new.

Share this tweet on Twitter or this post on Facebook, or remind your friends who love the world of Rockwell and unbeatable indie films from the '90s to get on board.

Thanks so much and more updates to come!

You now get more rewards! Sending you Alex's first film 'Lenz,' the original soundtrack & Limited Edition Vinyl!
over 8 years ago – Wed, Aug 30, 2017 at 04:12:44 PM

Hey guys,

Just unlocked: The limited-edition soundtrack on vinyl, and the preservation of Alex's first feature, Lenz!

What's this mean for YOU?

You get more rewards! I'm adding the download of Lenz and a download of the In the Soup soundtrack for free to every backer who's already receiving a download of In the Soup — $25 and up!

Read more about these at the Updates linked above... If you want them but you're contributing less than $25, just click the green "Manage my pledge" button on our main campaign page to upgrade.

Same goes for the limited-edition VINYL: I created upgrades for every In the Soup reward package at $100 and up. If you want the vinyl, just hit "Manage my pledge" and select the "+ VINYL" package which now includes the cost of packaging and shipping the vinyl. If this is confusing, message me, I'll help you figure it out.

Lessons from Seymour & Steve

A message from Seymour Cassel's daughter

Hey backers,

If you saw yesterday's update, you've heard what I very much hope we can accomplish next:

Not only do we want to make the critical repairs to In the Soup's archival print and re-release it for the anniversary, as well as making the soundtrack and Lenz available for the first time — because so many fans of Seymour's have come forward throughout this campaign it seems like now is the perfect time, the perfect opportunity, and the perfect community to make this happen: This short documentary as a tribute to Seymour Cassel.

Let's do this in concert with the restoration of one of Seymour's favorite films — it'll be great for fans, a great way to share his legacy with future fans, and great for him to see, too. If you can us get this news (and this Update) to as many Seymour fans as possible, I think together we can make this happen.

And in the meantime:

Lessons from Steve & Seymour

Seems like a good time for some advice from Seymour about how to make a great movie:

"I love you always sounds fresh to me."

I'll keep you posted on new developments here and on Facebook and Twitter. Stay tuned and have a great weekend —

PETER DINKLAGE on our Kickstarter in support of Seymour & 'In the Soup'!
over 8 years ago – Fri, Aug 25, 2017 at 05:52:59 PM

Hey guys,

Ah, this campaign is so full of possibilities.

Thus, we have a loyal ally of Alex's chiming in with his support of the In the Soup restoration, re-release, soundtrack and soundtrack and tribute to the legendary Cassavetes' co-conspirator and In the Soup star Seymour Cassel.

If you're a Game of Thrones fan, you might recognize him as Tyrion Lannister.

.
Before Peter was "Tyrion," he was "K. C. Munk" in Alex Rockwell's independent film Pete Smalls is Dead. He was a huge supporter of Alex's last feature Little Feet, and as you just heard, he's a big fan of In the Soup, and what we're doing here. In thanks to this community and in an effort to help grow it, he's generously contributed some new campaign rewards to In the Soup fans so we can try to finish big, make this 25th Anniversary release as broad-reaching as possible, and get this Seymour documentary made!

Rewards from Peter Dinklage

I have three amazing rewards from Peter – the latter two in very limited quantity – that I'm adding to our line-up now:

1. At the $24 level for Dinklage fans, a recorded thank you message from Dinklage himself, emailed to your inbox – the exact message is a surprise – and a postcard of a rare pic of Peter from Pete Smalls is Dead with a handwritten message from him printed on the back. I'll drop the recorded message from Peter in with the $25 level and up for all of you who are getting a copy of In the Soup already!

2. Peter will also be, as he mentioned, recording custom outgoing voicemail messages in response to your requests or, if you prefer, of his own invention, so when friends call you, they hear Tyrion or KC Munk or Finbar McBride (The Station Agent) or, heck, Mighty Eagle from Angry Birds address them and ask they leave you a message. Keep it for yourself or create it as a gift for the biggest GoT fan you know.

3. I can also post a limited number signed photos of Peter from Pete Smalls is Dead, by longtime Rockwell collaborator and In the Soup Director of Photography Phil Parmet, with a customized personal message (your choice of message, see the reward at $350 for details), so check out those too.

Now available signed with a personal message from Peter

Hope you survived the eclipse today with unscathed retinas, because you need those to see the restored release of In the Soup! (Among other things.)

Onward to victory!
